Eat, Drink and Protect Democracy

Eat, Drink and Protect Democracy Based in Salem, Oregon, the focus of this group is to support one another as we monitor and respond to local threats to democracy that restrict civil and human rights. We meet the first Sunday of each month at a home in NE Salem from 4:00 - 5:30 or so. We've been communicating via email so don't be surprised if you don't see a lot of communication through this site. Each meeting begins with informal networking over wine or N/A drinks, then into a potluck dinner and ends with a formal meeting. Sharing meals facilitates connections and we ask that everyone pitches in. One person will volunteer a main dish and then everyone else offers side dishes that complement it. If you join, please let the coordinator know if you have any dietary restrictions. We have moved from a legislative focus to pursuing different (but similar) personal priorities while coming together when needed to address local issues. For example, several members are volunteering for Vanessa Nordyke's (mayoral candidate) campaign. We use group time to learn from one another, draw inspiration, review what we've done over the past month and discuss issues that threaten democracy. We are seeking committed folks because supporting democracy, barring a family emergency, illness, etc., is absolutely essential right now. The formal meeting entails: 1. Headspace Check-In (optional) - Holding space to vent about issues close to our hearts. 2. Inspiration Circle - Discuss what we've been up to over the last month and draw inspiration from one another. 3. Discussions - "Hot" topics (provided with agenda distributed before each meeting.) 4. Wrap-Up Host Provides: 1. A clean, comfortable venue for the monthly events. (max capacity: 14). 2. Plates and silverware. 3. Cleaning of glasses/plates/silverware. 4. Filtered water and glasses. Requirements: 1. You are willing and able to do SOMETHING to protect democracy. 2. You are accepting and open to diverse viewpoints that align with democratic principles. 3. You are willing to bring a dish to share. 4. Bring a bag to haul your personal dirty serving dishes/utensils. 5.. Bring drinks other than water (provided) New members, unknown to anyone in the group, will receive an invitation for a meet and greet at a local coffee shop. We hope you will join us!

Mischief Makers of Merit: Illuminating Truth Through Good Trouble

What We Stand For We stand for truth in an era of confusion. In Michigan's Upper Peninsula, we believe every community deserves access to factual information free from manipulation. We stand against deliberate disinformation that divides communities and prevents informed civic participation. We are committed to illuminating truth, especially when powerful interests prefer shadows. Our Core Values Truth Above All: We pursue facts relentlessly, letting evidence guide us regardless of political convenience or prevailing narratives. Constructive Disruption: We embrace "good trouble" as necessary for change. When systems perpetuate misinformation, we disrupt respectfully but firmly. Community Empowerment: We believe an informed UP is a stronger UP. Our work aims to equip our neighbors with tools to recognize manipulation and make decisions based on facts. Intellectual Humility: We acknowledge the complexity of truth. We remain open to new evidence, willing to revise our understanding, and committed to nuance over-simplification. Courageous Transparency: We operate with openness about our methods and motivations, inviting scrutiny of our own work as we scrutinize others'. Creativity in Communication: We use innovative, engaging approaches to make complex information accessible to all community members. Why It Matters Misinformation isn't just a nuisance—it's a threat to our community's well-being. When people make decisions based on falsehoods: Local policies fail to address real needs Neighbors turn against neighbors over manufactured divisions Resources flow to problems that don't exist while genuine challenges go unaddressed Democracy itself weakens as informed voting becomes impossible Here in the UP, our tight-knit communities depend on trust and shared understanding. By illuminating truth through good trouble, we strengthen the foundations of our democracy, protect vulnerable community members from manipulation, and create space for genuine dialogue about our shared future. We believe that by standing firmly for truth—with both mischief and merit—we help create an Upper Peninsula where facts matter, people engage meaningfully in civic life, and communities thrive on common ground. In Shared Purpose, The Mischief Makers of Merit

Bonfire - Loudoun County, VA

Bonfire brings people together in real-world spaces, to grow, learn, and spark change — together, in person. We’re building community right in your backyard, with events and gatherings that offer opportunities for personal, professional, and political engagement and fulfillment. If you are looking for connection and joy, seeking inspiration or have some to share, we have a seat by our fire for you! Bonfire was created for women of all ages and backgrounds, but is not exclusive to women. Created in partnership with Red Wine & Blue’s TroubleNation, Bonfire groups are local communities led by volunteer organizers who want to bring people together where they live. TroubleNation provides the tools, training, and support to help these groups grow and thrive — while keeping community building at the center. Bonfire – Loudoun County meets monthly at local libraries. We have scheduled regular monthly meetings that build connection, community and relationships while providing opportunities to learn and give back together. Our members are also actively planning regular events outside of our monthly gatherings — from hikes, to museum visits, to volunteering with organizations in our community.
