Eat, Drink and Protect Democracy
Eat, Drink and Protect Democracy Based in Salem, Oregon, the focus of this group is to support one another as we monitor and respond to local threats to democracy that restrict civil and human rights. We meet the first Sunday of each month at a home in NE Salem from 4:00 - 5:30 or so. We've been communicating via email so don't be surprised if you don't see a lot of communication through this site. Each meeting begins with informal networking over wine or N/A drinks, then into a potluck dinner and ends with a formal meeting. Sharing meals facilitates connections and we ask that everyone pitches in. One person will volunteer a main dish and then everyone else offers side dishes that complement it. If you join, please let the coordinator know if you have any dietary restrictions. We have moved from a legislative focus to pursuing different (but similar) personal priorities while coming together when needed to address local issues. For example, several members are volunteering for Vanessa Nordyke's (mayoral candidate) campaign. We use group time to learn from one another, draw inspiration, review what we've done over the past month and discuss issues that threaten democracy. We are seeking committed folks because supporting democracy, barring a family emergency, illness, etc., is absolutely essential right now. The formal meeting entails: 1. Headspace Check-In (optional) - Holding space to vent about issues close to our hearts. 2. Inspiration Circle - Discuss what we've been up to over the last month and draw inspiration from one another. 3. Discussions - "Hot" topics (provided with agenda distributed before each meeting.) 4. Wrap-Up Host Provides: 1. A clean, comfortable venue for the monthly events. (max capacity: 14). 2. Plates and silverware. 3. Cleaning of glasses/plates/silverware. 4. Filtered water and glasses. Requirements: 1. You are willing and able to do SOMETHING to protect democracy. 2. You are accepting and open to diverse viewpoints that align with democratic principles. 3. You are willing to bring a dish to share. 4. Bring a bag to haul your personal dirty serving dishes/utensils. 5.. Bring drinks other than water (provided) New members, unknown to anyone in the group, will receive an invitation for a meet and greet at a local coffee shop. We hope you will join us!
