Pro-Colorado Education Project

Pro-CO Education Project supports Colorado grassroots communities committed to protecting public education as it continues to innovate and grow. We value inclusion, belonging, and the diverse experiences of all students and families who choose to use public education. We help grassroots community members and stakeholders learn about and understand the complex issues related to school boards, districts, and public education. Our superpowers: Communication. Connections. Community. We've been working behind the scenes for the past year supporting people and groups across Colorado - not just Denver and the Front Range. To quote one of our community members: We work in the cracks. We work on on strategy AND tactics to address statewide, or multi-community needs. This includes reaching out to national resources on behalf of Colorado. We also deploy our network to help others rapidly scale up as grassroots efforts come together. We embrace the many different lanes where our community members, friends, and colleagues work. After all, it takes a village! Our priorities: - Scaling grassroots efforts for inclusive public education - Public education governance and ethics - Protecting the rights of Americans to embrace religion - and to be free from religion (AKA, the separation of church and state) Did you know? Colorado is the state where the FIRST school district adopted the Civics Alliance's American Birthright social studies and history standards/curriculum in January 2024. We believe that's not a coincidence. Colorado's independent Western spirit is embedded in our State Constitution and legislation that outlines aspects of local control. That independence is reflected in CO's Department of Education's limited authority. Our local school districts enjoy community-centered, local control over curriculum. Our State Board of Education approves Academic Standards, but not curriculum.
