Mischief Makers of Merit: Illuminating Truth Through Good Trouble
What We Stand For We stand for truth in an era of confusion. In Michigan's Upper Peninsula, we believe every community deserves access to factual information free from manipulation. We stand against deliberate disinformation that divides communities and prevents informed civic participation. We are committed to illuminating truth, especially when powerful interests prefer shadows. Our Core Values Truth Above All: We pursue facts relentlessly, letting evidence guide us regardless of political convenience or prevailing narratives. Constructive Disruption: We embrace "good trouble" as necessary for change. When systems perpetuate misinformation, we disrupt respectfully but firmly. Community Empowerment: We believe an informed UP is a stronger UP. Our work aims to equip our neighbors with tools to recognize manipulation and make decisions based on facts. Intellectual Humility: We acknowledge the complexity of truth. We remain open to new evidence, willing to revise our understanding, and committed to nuance over-simplification. Courageous Transparency: We operate with openness about our methods and motivations, inviting scrutiny of our own work as we scrutinize others'. Creativity in Communication: We use innovative, engaging approaches to make complex information accessible to all community members. Why It Matters Misinformation isn't just a nuisance—it's a threat to our community's well-being. When people make decisions based on falsehoods: Local policies fail to address real needs Neighbors turn against neighbors over manufactured divisions Resources flow to problems that don't exist while genuine challenges go unaddressed Democracy itself weakens as informed voting becomes impossible Here in the UP, our tight-knit communities depend on trust and shared understanding. By illuminating truth through good trouble, we strengthen the foundations of our democracy, protect vulnerable community members from manipulation, and create space for genuine dialogue about our shared future. We believe that by standing firmly for truth—with both mischief and merit—we help create an Upper Peninsula where facts matter, people engage meaningfully in civic life, and communities thrive on common ground. WakeTFup
On tyranny lesson number 10 Believe in truth. To abandon facts is to abandon freedom. If nothing is true, then no one can criticize power, because there is no basis upon which to do so. If nothing is true, then all is spectacle. The biggest wallet pays for the most blinding lights. The Michigan open meetings act of 1975 allows any resident to speak in any district at any open meeting. There are over 40 opportunities to speak to the public in the county of Washington alone. At her most recent Townhall, representative Debbie Dingell had a specific ask. Get out into the community and speak truth, tell stories, and help our communities understand the impact of these policies and what they can do to fight back. The purpose of this group is to get as many people as possible into every open meeting in Washtenaw County. If we could get at least three people to commit to every meeting, we could tell the truth about this administration‘s policies, we could convey the stories of individuals who are being directly impacted by those policies, and we could help communities understand how they will be impacted by those policies and what they can do to fight back Some people find it difficult to speak in public because they don’t know what they will say. We will be working on scripting for those three part presentations at each meeting or you can speak your heart. If speaking in public isn’t your thing, we can still use your help writing scripts And/or supporting people that do speak in the meetings. let’s get out there and tell the public what they need to know and understand.

ILAB Progressives
The mission of ILAB Progressives is to provide a home for local activists to come together to take collective action at the local, state, and federal level; build community; have some laughs; and refresh / recharge. We plan to partner with nearby groups to amplify their actions (e.g., postcarding, texting, phonebanking, canvassing, collecting signatures, etc.) that focus on legislative, voter registration, and get out the vote efforts. Our website is https://indivisiblelab.org/ . We also have a FB page, a FB group, and a X account. Our X account and FB page can be found on the website.
