Eastern Panhandle Policies Over Parties

Eastern Panhandle Policies Over Parties, or EPPOP (pronounced E-POP) for short, is a nonpartisan organization working in Berkeley & Jefferson Counties, West Virginia. We are focused on building a large, integrated safety net to prevent individuals and families from falling through the cracks in society. We are also focused on mitigating harm to people from policies enacted by both the WV & US legislatures and administrations, regardless of political party, and to promoting good policies. We hold our legislators accountable to their constituents and we teach our community members about how to get involved in exercising their political freedoms. We support our communities by working together with others and lifting up all peoples in our communities. Some of the ways in which we accomplish these goals are: -Reducing Food Insecurity by Establishing Community Gardens across our two counties: invite individuals to work in the gardens in exchange for food to feed themselves and their families, use any extra produce to fill local food pantries and feed the needy, teach skills that help people become more independent, and use individuals' volunteer hours in the garden to help them qualify for Medicaid. -Building & Strengthening the Safety Net by Partnering with Churches and other Organizations in our area who are already providing services to our communities, supporting those services, and determining where the holes in our safety net lie, so that we can create additional services to fill those holes. -Combating Misinformation through Truth by researching WV & US policies, teaching our community members about what those policies are, identifying the policy harm within our communities and how they will affect their families, and how they can get involved to support or reject those policies. -Holding Our Representatives Accountable to the People through calls, emails, letters, personal visits, and attending town halls, in addition to teaching their constituents how to make their voices heard in Charleston and DC through their constitutionally protected rights to free speech and peaceful protest -Promoting Education for All by uplifting our educators, fighting book bans, pushing back against discriminatory policies that harm students & teachers, and protesting damaging changes to WV curriculum or school policy. -Supporting Our Community Structure by shopping at small businesses instead of corporations and chain restaurants in order for them to thrive during good times and survive during economic downturns. -Protecting Our Community Members by standing up for all people, especially our marginalized communities, such as LGBTQIA+, IPOC, the elderly, the disabled, the poor, the homeless, veterans, and any other peoples who are being othered. All People deserve to be treated with respect, and our focus is to build up our communities rather than tear them down. -Defending the Rights of All Women & Girls to control their own bodies, lives, choices, education, livelihoods, and voices. We hope that you'll join us on this Adventure into Building a New and Better World! You can find us on Facebook, this website, and soon on BlueSky. Resist + Persist - Miami County OH

Welcome to “Resist + Persist - Miami County, Ohio”! This is the official page for likeminded individuals in Miami County who are passionate about protecting voting rights, women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, public education, and gun regulations. Maybe you were a registered Republican before Trump took office in 2016 and now feel a little lost—you’re more than welcome to join us! This group is a space to seek support, ask questions, share thoughts, and post about upcoming events in our community. For a long time, many of us stayed quiet about politics. Whether in our communities, among friends and family, or on social media, we kept our opinions to ourselves. If politics came up, we either said nothing or reluctantly nodded along, afraid to speak our truth. When did we all become afraid to speak up? In a county where a strong, passionate, and deeply rooted MAGA movement grows each year, it’s easy to feel intimidated. Many MAGA supporters struggle to differentiate real news from misinformation. Add in their immediate defensiveness or stone walling, the result can be wildly unpredictable—and yes, even frightening. On November 3, 2024, we came to a harsh realization: this MAGA cult-like movement isn’t slowing down—it’s intensifying. For too long, we naively assumed that people would see through the lies. After all, Trump is a convicted felon (among many other things). So how did we get here? We must start speaking up, challenging harmful views, and confronting the discomfort—even if it means losing friends or family. As we brace for the hardships of another Trump administration, we need to stand together and push back. This group is also a safe space for those who aren’t yet ready to be publicly vocal. Many of us fear backlash—not just for ourselves, but for our families. We understand that hesitation, and there is no judgment here. So whether you choose to be loud in public or loud in this group, we need each other now more than ever. To those Democrats and Liberals who have already been fighting—thank you. Your courage has paved the way for the rest of us. Help us find that same bravery. Now, we finally have a community we can turn to. Invite like-minded friends, get involved, and let’s work together to push for change. Our goal: Engage with the community, advocate for policies that matter, and have civil yet challenging conversations in this overwhelmingly Republican area.
