(State Airport Facilities Enforcing Accountability in Immigration Removals)
(State Airport Facilities Enforcing Accountability in Immigration Removals)
We, the undersigned residents and registered voters of New York State, strongly urge our State Legislators and Assemblymembers to support and advance the SAFE AIR Act, sponsored by Senator Patricia Fahy and Assemblymember Michaelle C. Solages.
This legislation ensures that New York State does not directly or indirectly aid in immigration enforcement actions that lack the due process protections guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. It prohibits New York State agencies, authorities, departments, local governments, and public benefit corporations from contracting with commercial airlines that participate in removals illegally initiated by U.S. ICE.
We call on you to stand with your constituents in protecting civil rights, due process, and the integrity of our state by passing the SAFE AIR Act.
Why is this important?
The SAFE AIR (State Airport Facilities Enforcing Accountability in Immigration Removals) Act
• Protects constitutional rights and civil liberties.
• Ensures taxpayer funds are not used to subsidize unlawful deportations.
• Uses the state’s proprietary authority to demand accountability and uphold the rule of law.
As Senator Fahy stated: “The federal government’s respect for due process, under the U.S. Constitution, is not optional; it is the bedrock of our democracy. This legislation sends a clear message: if you want to do business with New York State, you must respect the rule of law, and the constitutional rights afforded to every person on American soil.”
