ICE OUT of New Jersey - Calling on Governor Sherrill to take action!
We the undersigned New Jerseyans call on Governor Mikie Sherrill to use every law enforcement and legal tool necessary to stop the ICE terror in our state.
Those signing this petition have participated in on the ground actions or followed those actions. We have participated in supporting detainees with donations, mutual aid, direct financial support, hospitality, rapid response and/or at vigils and protests.
We have witnessed ICE terrorizing our neighbors in New Jersey, in other states and killing people without cause. We have witnessed brutality, and untrained agents behaving like Hitler’s “Brownshirts”. Many of those taken by ICE are here legally, married to US citizens and parents of US citizen children. They are working and contributing to community and paying taxes. We reject this cruel and unnecessary immigration enforcement.
We have seen in person or in recorded interactions, ICE agents breaking the law by wearing masks, using vehicles with fully blackened windows, and lacking front license plates (even with NJ plates). We have seen vehicles with no license plates whatsoever, and two vehicles with the same license plates simultaneously abducting people in the same town. We have seen children left to watch parents and others kidnapped without judicial warrants, putting children in danger. We reject the illegal and dehumanizing tactics and cruelty that our neighbors experience at the hands of the federal government.
We demand more be done by law enforcement in NJ not to demonize us, those legally protesting these actions, but to enforce the laws. We expect ICE agents to be held to the same standards as all other New Jerseyans following NJ laws, which includes no masks during enforcement activities, no blackened out windows, no driving recklessly and speeding, no illegally documented, licensed, or registered vehicles, no arresting and kidnapping people with legal status. We demand an end to this CHAOS!
We, your constituents, your voters, demand that you use any and all means at your disposal, including diverting NJ payments to the federal treasury, directing state and local police and county sheriff's departments to ENFORCE NJ law, and challenging the DHS and ICE agents in court at every turn.
The detention system and ICE enforcement must END NOW before another ICE killing.
Why is this important?
ICE is terrorizing our communities. They are not focused on only those convicted of crimes, “the worst of the worst” as they claim. They are tearing families apart. People living here for years, contributing to our tax base, contributing to the community, shopping, running businesses, raising United States citizen children, are being disappeared, captured, tormented. This is immoral and unnecessary.
We need immigration reform, not ICE terror. New Jersey’s laws are not being followed. Our Governor must use her power as leader of over 9.5 million people, whose state makes up 2.8% (USAFacts.org) of the United States population while contributing over $79.1 billion dollars of the federal budget, approximately 4% (MoneyRates.com & bloustein.rutgers.edu).
