Zoom Workshop on Understanding Zoning

Join Good Neighbors Getting it Done in Western New York on March 10 at 7 PM for a free, nonpartisan, informational workshop on understanding zoning laws in Erie County town and villages. Register at https://bit.ly/GNzoning to get the Zoom info.

Following a brief overview of how the process works in New York State towns and villages and how to find relevant information for your community, speakers who serve on local boards or have a familiarity with relevant law will share their experiences and understanding. The workshop will end with a brief Q and A session. Note that while this workshop will not focus on a particular project, if time allows, there will be an opportunity for people to connect and network to discuss next steps. 

Why care about zoning? 

Because:

Zoning laws shape the look of our communities, determine the process for the purchase and sale of buildings, regulate how buildings can be used, and more. Some of our neighbors in nearby counties found out too late that a project was moving forward. Some found out in time and were able to get their voices heard. Regardless of what projects you're watching - national efforts related to migration, commercial projects like datacenters with an established history of negatively impacting the quality of life in a community, or others - the local zoning process is a lynchpin to understanding local government. Learn how to advocate for, against, or just how things work. This is also a great workshop for those interested in serving in local government but do not want to run for office.
