About the Event:

Learn more about SB 276, a bill that helps protect our immigrant neighbors. Learn about new requirements for local agencies, handling personal information, and interactions with federal immigration authorities.

For the first time in Colorado, public schools, childcare centers, colleges and universities, health facilities, and libraries are prohibited from collecting immigration documents or disclosing sensitive information for immigration enforcement purposes without a judicial warrant, court order or subpoena.
The law requires all covered institutions to:
  • Adopt and publicize clear internal policies on when and how personal data can be accessed, and when federal immigration authorities must be denied access (unless they present a judge-signed warrant).

  • Designate staff to handle ICE requests, document all ICE contact, and notify affected individuals or families if lawful access is sought.

  • Expand protections first established under SB21-131 (2021) from state agencies to now include local public institutions such as cities, counties, school districts, early childhood centers, community colleges, public health clinics, and libraries.
