The Power of One: How a Single Vote Can Change Everything

One thing we all likely share in this group is that we’re registered voters. Our democracy only works when we use our voices at the ballot box.
But even the strongest believers in democracy can sometimes feel discouraged about voting. And for those we know who aren’t regular voters, it can feel like their single vote doesn’t matter— whether they’re disappointed Democrats, uncertain Independents, or regretful Republicans.
While there’s already plenty of chatter about the 2026 midterms, we’ve got an important chance to vote this November. Several amendments to the Texas Constitution are on the ballot, measures that could have a real impact and may resonate across party lines.
At our September 20 meeting, we’ll focus on the November 20 ballot including what’s on it in Harris and Galveston counties, details on the proposed amendments, and why it’s so critical to do our part to get out the vote. Historically, turnout in the November election following a presidential year is dismal. Let’s see what we can do to change that.
