Stand Up for Union Librarians

W e are supporting Southern Maryland Democratic Socialists event.

In March 2025, librarians in Charles County voted to unionize with the UFCW local 1994. Library Director Kenneth Wayne Thompson has since cut library services and set aside $250,000 of taxpayer money to hire Jackson Lewis - a law firm whose business model is preventing union contracts - for negotiations. The librarians still do not have a contract and are being subject to harassment and discrimination.

This is our taxpayer money, and it is more than they have allocated for books. Hundreds of community members have now sent emails to the Board of Trustees, including Charles County Commissioner and ex officio member Amanda Stewart, but they are ignoring us.

Join us at the Board of Trustees meeting on January 8 to demand that they:

- Fire Director Kenneth Wayne Thompson
- Stop wasting taxpayer money on union busting
- Negotiate in good faith with your employees
