MEETING AGENDA – April 3, 2025
SASSY LASSIES DEFENDING TRUTH & DEMOCRACY [SLDTD]
MISSION STATEMENT: We are an action-minded, values-driven support group of like-minded people organizing to get in "good trouble" within the Chicago SW suburbs to combat disinformation and defend truth & democracy.
8:00 p.m. Virtual meeting begins – recognition of new members present.
DISCUSSION TOPICS:
* Revise SLDTD Mission Statement?
* Preferable form of group communication? Text? E-mail? SLDTD landing page?
* The SLDTD landing page is meant to be an inspirational gathering space for us to share information & bolster our spirits as we work to support our mission statement. Each SLDTD member should feel free to post links to reading materials, video resources, upcoming local, state, & national protests, share info from other groups SLDTD members follow, SLDTD calendar events, etc. Trishie suggested spotlighting local people doing great work getting into good trouble on our SLDTD landing page with feature pieces focused on individual causes each of our SLDTD members are passionate about like the migrant stories Carol Moss shared at our February 16th inaugural SLDTD Meet & Greet. THOUGHTS?
* BRAINSTORM ways to connect with more like-minded people/efforts (Indivisible, 50501: The People’s Movement, etc) – i.e. THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY.
* SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE: Dedicated SLDTD Facebook/Instagram/Bluesky page?
* UPCOMING PROTESTS:
(1) Saturday, April 5th, 3:00-4:00 p.m. @ 103rd & Western Ave - HANDS OFF! SOUTHSIDE CHICAGO FIGHTS BACK [see text invite]
(2) TESLA SATURDAYS – Noon to 2:00 p.m. – various locations
(3) OTHERS?
* DISCUSSION TOPICS FOR NEXT MEETING:
+ EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT to monthly meetings?
Examples: Guest speakers? Training program? Watch Red Wine Blue resource videos & discuss? Watch a film & discuss? Host a book read & discussion? Do some form of “craftvism” [make march posters, etc]? Make videos to share the SLDTD message on social media?
+ “CALL TO ACTION” Pop-Up meetings?
Examples: Write postcards to elected officials? Write letters to the editor of local newspapers? Call elected officials? Support other state’s election phone banks? Assemble Card Campaign packets for distribution? Plan a march, rally, town hall or some other type of community event?
[These items can also be done on our own as schedules dictate, but it’s always nice to gather together😊]
+ COMMUNITY SERVICE COMPONENT?
Examples: Support a food pantry? Plan a voter registration drive? Support the local migrant population?
+ MEMBER RECRUITMENT?
Examples: Make a list of other like-minded people in our area who you want to invite to join SLDTD.
+ COMMITTEE CHAIRS? Be thinking about what roles you might like to assume to divide the work. Each of us have unique talents to lend to our cause of defending democracy – better to share the responsibilities to prevent burnout.
* NEXT MEETING?
9:00 p.m. – Adjourn/Social time [if Zoom doesn’t boot us off! 😊]
Red Wine & Blue's Trouble Nation members know that when we come together we can achieve great things! The more people that come along to these kind of events, the more our movement will grow. Keep on keeping on!✌️
