PSS-Mecklenburg Action at CMSB Public Hearing on the School Budget

When public schools are under attack, what do we do? STAND UP FIGHT BACK!

Join the PSS community at the April 14th CMS Board meeting at which there will be a public hearing on the school budget for the year beginning this June 1st. We need dozens of families, employees and community members to tell the Board that YOUR children deserve the best!

Thanks to school staff, volunteers and families stretching to fill the gaps, CMS’ beloved public schools still provide many amazing opportunities for our children.

NC's slide down state rankings began in 2013 and this year we are dead last - 51st  [includes D.C.] in the country  [this is 2025 data and as the only state without a budget, NC funding is stuck - at last year's per pupil spending.  Plus, North Carolina lawmakers are cutting corporate income tax to ZERO by 2030. At the same time, Congress' "Big Beautiful Bill" takes money away from public school programs to give tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans. These cuts weren't created in Mecklenburg - but students here will feel their impacts.

It's time to ask our county leaders: What is the plan? Which schools lose how many and which teachers? Counselors? Bus drivers? Coaches? How many buildings with asbestos can't be torn down because limited funds must go to other needs? We know your fill rate is 99.5%, but how many of those jobs are filled by teachers with a degree in education or teaching? How much would it take to get them here? How much would it take for CMS to be FULLY FUNDED?

Join other parents & community school supporters to ask local officials for transparency about what our public schools are facing-- and what they are doing to stop cuts to kids!
