Protecting Freedom: The Importance of Church–State Separation

The separation of church and state safeguards every person’s right to live authentically and believe freely, so long as those beliefs do not harm others. For nearly 80 years, Americans United for Separation of Church and State has defended this foundational principle of our democracy, ensuring freedom without favoritism and equality without exception.
This principle touches many of the issues shaping our lives today — from public education and LGBTQ+ equality to reproductive freedom, civil rights, and the protection of genuine religious liberty. At its core, church–state separation helps create a society where everyone stands on equal footing.
Join Bay Area Troublemakers on April 18 at Noon as Americans United Greater Houston Chapter Board Member Ann Shetler discusses why this issue matters now more than ever.
A Q&A session will follow the presentation, offering you the opportunity to engage, ask questions, and share perspectives.
