About the Event:
Protecting our elections isn't a new fight for us, but as Election Day approaches, the stakes couldn't be higher.
Join AFT President Randi Weingarten and activists from across the country for the official launch of the AFTvotes Democracy Defenders program!
Defending democracy starts right at home. We are building a nationwide network of thousands of volunteers to safeguard our elections at the local level. Whether it’s clearing up voting rule confusion or making sure polling locations run smoothly, we are taking action to ensure every eligible vote counts.
What Democracy Defenders Do:
- Educate Voters: Help community members check their registration, navigate local voting laws, cut through misinformation, and make a plan to vote.
- Recruit & Organize: Build local volunteer teams within our unions, neighborhoods, and community networks to expand our reach.
- Protect the Vote: Train to serve as poll workers, nonpartisan poll monitors, and election protection volunteers in partnership with the AFL-CIO.
