One Million Rising

Simone and I are planning to host a One Million Rising event on Saturday August 9th at 9am. This is a mass mobilization effort with the goal of training one million people in the practice of noncompliance and community organizing. We’re hoping for at least 20 people to join us. Please let us know if you can attend! (Kids are welcome and can play in our loft or nearby park).

Mujeres de Accíon is collecting items for immigrant neighbors in North County (link to list at the end of the email). You can bring things to our One Million Rising gathering on August 9th or contact me for another drop off time. Also, we have a member who is a great thrifter! If you have the financial resources but limited time, let me know and she’d happily use your funds to find good deals! 

Based on the interest form I sent out a few weeks ago, most people would like to read Mutual Aid by Dean Spade (though there was interest in all the suggested books!) We will either meet Saturdays at 9ish or Tuesdays after 5:30pm. The book is 128 pages and 5 chapters, so perhaps we’d meet once a month and cover a chapter? Specifics can be determined. If you would like to join us in reading about Mutual Aid, please let me know and we will solidify the dates and times. (And no shame if you want to attend but don’t get it read, just come and be in community!) 

We’ll see how these meetings go and continue planning further gatherings. It’s important to remember that authoritarians want us to feel alone and powerless, but the antidote is resisting together!
