Bring: signs, flag cowbells, drums, and a loud voice for chants!
With the looming chance of the Insurrection Act of 1807 we need to take this day and USE OUR VOICES!! This might be our last chance!! April 20th is the day he can put this into place. "The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a United States federal law that empowers the president of the United States to deploy the U.S. military and federalized National Guard troops within the United States in particular circumstances, such as to suppress civil disorder, insurrection, or rebellion."
Join Crabs on the Shores - Women Working Together for Democracy, in partnership with 50501, on the anniversary of the state of the Revolutionary War. In 1775, our country wanted to establish our own government, free from the monarchical control of Britain. Paul Revere’s midnight ride started on the 18th and ended on the 19th, with the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The battles were a victory for the American militia and led to increased support for the anti-British cause.
Now, 250 years later, our democracy is at stake as we slip back into a government that only works for a few (the billionaires), instead of all of us! We need to advocate to stop the grift! We need our systems of checks and we must protect our freedoms, as outlined in the constitution. We must stand up for those directly in harm's way, if you come for one of us, you come for all of us.
We all agreed “Never again!” after reading Martin Niemöller‘s famous poem., “First They Came.”
Corruption destroys, community builds! Stand in solidarity to defend our democracy! We need to be visible and make some noise!!!!! Please be safe. If anti-protesters come, keep your distance and do NOT engage. Stay in the designated area. We are allowed to be on public land but we do need to stay mindful of other park enjoyers. Stay off sidewalks when not walking and be courteous in interactions. There will be children at the park so please use language appropriate in a city park.
Dress comfortably. Bring water and snacks/prescribed medications if needed. Do not bring anything that could be utilized as a weapon and if you would like to bring a chair to sit in during speeches or along the grass/road during the protest please feel free to do so.
Parking is located along the park as well as some businesses and a school that we assume can be utilized on the weekend for parking as long as there is no signs indicating otherwise. Please be mindful to READ where you park. You are responsible for your own possessions/belongings.
Remember this is a PEACEFUL gathering. Hate towards others will not be tolerated. All are welcome - this is about what is RIGHT vs. wrong.
