No Kings Mass Protest in Monroe

Indivisible and other partner organizations are planning nationwide protests, including this one in Monroe, to coincide with Trump's military/birthday parade in DC.

After you RSVP with us, please sign up with No Kings at https://mobilize.us/s/oMsxL1. You can learn more about the protests at https://www.nokings.org/.

LOCATION

  • Michele Kelsey, one of the organizers for NKD, says we will be protesting on the block that surrounds the building where Mark Harris' local office is located (300 N. Main Street, Monroe). The block is surrounded by N. Main St., Franklin St., N. Hayne Street and Jefferson St.
  • Parking is limited. Here is a link to a map that shows public parking in downtown Monroe:

  • Our EMHN group will gather before the protest starts (around 10:45 am) in front of Americana Beer Co, located across from 300 N Main St. Look for me. I'll  be carrying a lavender bag with the Red Wine and Blue logo on it. Afterwards, we will head to 300 N Main St to check in with NKD organizers, as requested of all participants. The organizers will direct us from there.

BATHROOMS & FIRST AID KIT

  • NKD organizers say they are "not aware of any public restrooms nearby so plan accordingly." The restroom at East Frank Superette and Kitchen (209 E Franklin St) will hopefully be available for our use. Moreover, the Union County Public Library is a short seven-minute walk from the protest site at 316 E Windsor St.
  • NKD organizers will have a first aid kit.

ATTIRE & ITEMS TO BRING
  • We recommend participants wear layers, comfortable shoes, a sun hat, sunshades and no jewelry.
  • Suggested items to bring include:
    • A handmade protest sign (Signs may not be on sticks, as the stick could be considered a weapon. Pool noodles, wrapping paper tubes or paper towel tubes are acceptable alternatives.)
    • “Go Bag” with ID, cell phone with camera, water, emergency cash, portable fan or cooler neck wrap and medications
    • Phone number(s) of emergency contact(s)
    • Phone number for the ACLU of North Carolina (919-834-3466)

FOOD DRIVE

NKD organizers for the protest in Monroe are asking participants to bring canned and dried-food donations for Common Heart, specifically:

  • Canned tuna or chicken in water
  • Low sodium green beans
  • Low sodium pinto beans
  • No sugar added tomato sauce
  • Whole wheat pasta
  • Brown rice

They will have a truck on N. Main St. in front of the building collecting food.
