Showing up in numbers matters.

Rallying, marching, protesting, demonstrating is unlikely to sway the opinion of unconstitutional, law-breaking, pocket-lining oligarchs, or techno-fascist christian-nationalists, BUT it certainly continues to sway PUBLIC OPINION by legitimizing dissent, making dissent less fringe, so people feel emboldened to voice dissent every day of the week. 

Showing up in numbers is a way to stand in solidarity with Minnesota and Vermont, with every terrorized immigrant community nationwide. 

Showing up in numbers demonstrates to the REST OF THE WORLD that the US is not so addicted to comfort that we can't even take to the street when everything is on the line. 

Showing up in numbers is how we write history, to let the records show what our response was, to answer the questions of our grandchildren.

The number one phrase I have heard most spoken/written/expressed, especially in the last 2 months is, "I just don't know what to do." which is another way of saying, "I have lost all sense of agency." It is another way of saying, "I am trying to figure this out all by myself and it isn't working". We cannot solve any of these crises using the neuropathways of hyper-individualism. Those neuropathways will always arrive at the same conclusion of deep discouragement. We cannot solve collective problems at the level of the individual. It is only through mutual care that we solve our problems. 

Showing up in numbers is a form of care in which we begin to re-route neural pathways.
