Monthly Meeting: Staying Engaged During the Summer Lull
Stay pumped and energized for change - despite the summer heat and humidity - at our monthly group meeting! We will first discuss EMHN’s upcoming events and then cap off the evening by helping you take action on a political or community issue of your choice. Here’s how it’ll work:
- Choose your issue:
- The sale of public lands in “The Big Beautiful Bill” or NC Republicans’ attempts to revise the state’s definition of “wetlands” that will put millions of acres of wetlands - and flood protection, clean water and wildlife they support - at risk
- Potential passage of the SAVE Act in the US Senate and examples of voter suppression on the state level
- NC Republicans push for concealed carry without permit (SB 50)
- Upholding Governor Stein’s vetoes of anti-immigrant “Border Protection Act” (SB 153) and "Cooperation with ICE Expansion” (HB 318)
- Work together with a small group of fellow EMHN members to address the issue through a joint action, like:
- Writing postcards or sending emails to your elected state or federal representatives and agencies
- Creating phone scripts to call your elected state of federal representatives
- Writing letters to the editors of local or national newspapers
- Using RWB’s Rally or other tool to educate friends and family
- Wrap up by discussing ways you can follow up on this issue in the days and weeks to come.
