Community Group Agreements
1. One Mic, One Voice
We respect the person speaking by giving them our full attention. No cross-talk or side conversations—everyone deserves to be heard without interruption.
2. Assume Positive Intent
We start from a place of trust. Even if a comment is phrased awkwardly, we assume the person is coming from a good place. If something stings, we ask for clarification before reacting.
3. Step Up, Step Back
- Step Up: If you’re usually quiet, we encourage you to share your unique perspective.
- Step Back: If you’ve already shared several times, create space for others to contribute. We want to balance the "airtime."
4. Listen to Understand, Not to Respond
Often we listen just to find an opening for our own point. Here, we listen to truly grasp the speaker's lived experience, feelings, or fears.
5. Safe Space, Brave Space
What is said here stays here (confidentiality), but what is learned here leaves here (growth). We create a safe environment for vulnerability and a brave environment for difficult but necessary conversations.
6. Own Your "I" Statements
Speak from your own experience ("I feel," "I noticed") rather than making generalizations about groups of people or how "everyone" feels.
