May Bonfire with Michelle Barnes the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS)

Michelle Barnes is our featured speaker for May Bonfire!

Michelle Barnes serves as the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) and a member of Governor Jared Polis's Cabinet, a role she has held since her 2019 appointment.

Michelle leads CDHS to achieve our mission of empowering Coloradans to thrive. Her strategic oversight directs CDHS to provide a range of services to children, teens, families, adults of all ages, people with disabilities, detained and committed youth, veterans, and people with mental health needs, including those involved with the justice system. Michelle brings a unique blend of innovation and passion to her work from extensive nonprofit executive experience, a decade in the technology sector, and a lifelong commitment to public service. Michelle holds an MBA from UCLA and a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary. Outside of her professional work, she is usually plotting her next adventure or volunteering in the community.

At our May 13th Bonfire gathering, Michelle will open by giving an overview of her career and how she reached her current position. She will give an overview of the populations CDHS serves (as there is a wide variety). She will then discuss details on how people can engage with some of the specific populations that CDHS works with, such as families who rely on SNAP benefits, foster care, and adults with brain injuries. Michelle prefers a more conversational presentation style, leaving space for audience questions.

As always, we will have dedicated time to deepen our connections and community.

We'll see you on May 13th!
