Lobby Day at the NCGA on June 17
There is a ton of attention on the Trump administration right now, but the North Carolina General Assembly is considering several bills that could directly affect the wellbeing of our schools, our kids, and ourselves.
Here are some of the worst bills:
- The House has passed HB 636, a bill making it easier for extremists to ban books in public schools.
- SB227 and SB558, two Trump-style anti-diversity bills wiping out all programs helping to improve equity has passed the House and is now in the Senate
- HB 127 will prohibit organizations from conducting voter registration drives, suppressing the vote across the state.
- The current budget bill could give teachers a small raise and cut income tax rates, but will cut hundreds of millions of dollars from our universities and public schools, as well as health care.
We have A LOT of power in the outcome of this legislation.

On this special day, we will host a Banned Book Read In outside the NCGA building and then attend face-to-face meetings with our legislators to tell them how we feel about book banning, discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, and attempts to erase Black and other marginalized communities in our state, and suppress our vote.
