Immigrants and Refugees in our Community: What's happening and how can we help?

For those of you who saw the earlier iteration of this event, the Iowa Legislature will not conclude the 2025 session in time to participate in our Legislative Update. That will happen in June.
We will be joined by a representative from Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice (Iowa MMJ) to discuss their work in Iowa and to provide an update on the changing legal landscape. We will also be joined by representatives from Ames organizations that support the refugees and immigrants in our community: Ames Interfaith Refugee Alliance, the Ames Sanctuary Interfaith Partner, the DACA Team, and the Legal Immigration Clinic. They will describe their work, provide their insights into the plight of the refugees and immigrants among us, as well as debunk myths about these populations. Please come with open hearts and minds to learn what is happening in our midst and to find ways to support these individuals and families. There will be ample opportunity for questions and to consider a personal action plan. Please bring a friend.
