Iowa Legislation: What's happening and how to participate in the process

No vaccine requirements for public schools. Don't say gay. Medical abortion. Telehealth. Mandating cooperation with ICE. Counting absentee ballots.  Bills addressing these issues and many others are currently being debated in the Iowa Legislature.

The legislative process is complicated. Information from the legislative website is sometimes difficult to locate making it challenging to monitor a particular bill.  We will gather on March 3rd, which is 11 days following the February 20th “first funnel”.   A bill must be voted out of committee by that date to continue to move through the legislative process for debate and vote in the House and the Senate.  We will focus on several high visibility, high impact bills that are still moving through the legislative process at that time, as well as learn the fundamentals of property taxes and school funding. You will have an opportunity to sharpen your skills navigating the legislative website, as well as how and when to communicate with legislators about the issues most important to you.  As always, snacks and beverages will be provided.  Grab a friend and join us.
