About the Event:

Right now, the stakes are much higher than simply changing your loved ones’ minds. Lives are on the line, and it’s white people’s role to step towards our communities– not away from them– and lean into these difficult conversations to stop the cycle of racism and bring more white people into movements for justice.
Join Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), the largest national organization in the country that organizes white people for justice, for a training, “How to organize your people: a training for white people on how to have hard conversations.” Our leaders have decades of experience having these conversations and organizing white communities for justice. We’ll give you frame work, conversation tools, and opportunities to practice talking about difficult topics.
It’s true you can’t change someone’s mind in one conversation. It’s also true that some people are so dug in they can’t hear anything else. And it’s also true that deep down most people share our values and want the same things we want– it’s on us to find that thread of connection, call out our common enemies, and invite people in to join us."
