In a world where shouting matches drown out real conversations, how do we connect with people who see things differently? Join us for an engaging evening of practical training that goes beyond “facts and figures” and gets to the heart of what works: compassion, curiosity, and deep listening.
This interactive workshop will introduce a holistic approach to conversations across divides—where the goal isn’t to “win” or change minds on the spot, but to build understanding, preserve relationships, and open doors for future dialogue. Together, we’ll explore how to:
- Shift from debate mode to genuine conversation
- Prioritize relationships over point-scoring
- Use curiosity and compassion as tools for connection
- Recognize when facts help—and when they sabotage discussions
Come ready to learn, practice, and walk away with new skills you can use immediately in your everyday conversations.
To bring items for the potluck or to volunteer with set up and break down of the rental space please sign up using this link.
Optional reading material and videos can be found here, in case you want to delve deeper into this topic before the training.
The location will be shared with respondents before the meeting. The location is Mantua, Central Fairfax. *Note: There is one flight of stairs to access the event.
Can’t make it in person? There is also a great virtual event led by Elizabeth Chur, on which this training is based, scheduled for the same evening.
