Greenville City Council Meeting: Public Camping Ordinance Discussion

On June 9, The Greenville City Council voted to postpone discussions of a public camping ordinance after many speakers criticized the measure at a recent meeting. The ordinance primarily bans public camping and storing personal property, such as bags or clothes, in community spaces. The ordinance also prohibits lying down on a bench or against a wall for more than two hours, regardless of whether someone is sleeping or not.

This discussion is now set to take place on Monday, August 11 at the Greenville City Council meeting at Greenville City Hall. We need to read the ordinance, share with others, and attend to SPEAK UP and SPEAK OUT. Criminalizing poverty and homelessness is not just cruel - it is simply bad policy.  We need to make our presence and stance on this matter known. Please share about this in your circles and make plans to attend, and encourage anyone who is willing to also attend. This is a pivotal moment for Greenville, and we need to make ourselves a part of the discussion as much as possible!
