Fighting for Our Democracy...A Chat with Paula Nesoff

Join us for a special evening with Paula, who will be introducing an inspiring opportunity for community action: "Fighting for Our Democracy: Learning from Maria Ressa." This community-wide educational initiative, happening July 4–15, is sponsored by the newly-formed South Shore Activists Collaboration—a collective of local groups including Scituate Indivisible, South Shore Women Rising, March Forward Quincy Indivisible, Southeastern Action League, and Progressive South Shore.

During our June 16th gathering, Paula will share how South Shore Women Rise can participate in this powerful program, which centers around Nobel Peace Prize Winner Maria Ressa and her courageous work defending democracy in the Philippines.

The July initiative invites us to:

  • Watch films and interviews featuring Maria Ressa

  • Read and reflect on her message

  • Gather in small groups to discuss key topics like:

    • The role of social media in shaping truth

    • Attacks on the press and the spread of misinformation

    • Parallels between the Philippines and the U.S.

    • How we can stay engaged and motivated in protecting our democracy

Let’s come together, get informed, and take action—starting with this important conversation on June 16.
