CAT Community Conversation: 3 VA Constitutional Amendments

Reproductive Freedom -- Marriage Equality -- Voting Rights Restoration
This November, Virginia has the chance to amend our constitution and make our rights permanent. Join us in conversation about why these referenda are so important.
Virginians will be voting on three amendments:
1. Reproductive Freedom – This amendment will protect everyone's freedom to make personal decisions about their reproductive health care—including access to contraception, IVF, miscarriage care, abortion (through the 2nd trimester), and will protect providers who deliver that care.
2. Marriage Equality – The Marriage Equality Amendment will remove an outdated ban from our state constitution and ensure that two adults may marry regardless of sex, gender, or race. This will give every Virginian the same rights, protections, and dignity—no matter who they are or who they love.

3. Voting Rights Restoration – Currently, Virginians convicted of a felony automatically lose their right to vote, even after they've served their time. This amendment will restore those rights automatically upon release. After serving their time, all returning citizens deserve to be welcomed and fully reintegrated into society, including having the right to vote.
At this event, we’ll talk about what each of us can do to help encourage our friends and neighbors to vote “yes!” on all three referendums. NoVA CAT welcomes three expert speakers about the issues behind these amendments.
- Candice Tuck, Founder of the Virginia Queer Collective, which coordinates resources and programming focused on awareness, education, events, resources, services, support, and training benefiting the LGBTQ+ community.
- Sheba Williams, Founder of Nolef Turns, a VA-based re-entry and policy organization that provides direct service support to individuals impacted by long term incarceration
- Mary Olivia Rentner, Communications Director for Virginians for Reproductive Freedom, a coalition of VA families, doctors, nurses, and advocacy organizations working to ensure we can make reproductive health care decisions free from government interference.
