Showing up for Yes on Issue 1: Newark Pride Oct. 6th & 7th

Newark Pride this weekend offers a great opportunity to interact with progressive voters and potential voters from Licking County and surrounding areas before the Oct. 10 Voter Registration deadline. How can we combine and coordinate efforts to reach as many attendees as possible? The celebration begins with a grassroots courthouse lighting (flashlights w/ colored gels) Fri. evening, 7 pm. The main event is 12-6 pm at Canal District on Saturday, followed by an after-party, 7:30-11. See https://newarkpridecoalition.org/home for further details and inspiration.
Simply being present at these events with your support for Yes on Issue 1 (making clear it’s repro rights) and Pride visible on your clothing would be very helpful. Being prepared with literature and talking points for one-on-one conversation — even better. Actively canvassing and offering voter services (including voter registration and absentee ballot request forms) would be better yet.
If your group or organization or business is tabling during the main event on Saturday, is there a way you could incorporate voter education on Issue 1 and its importance to the LGBTQ+ and allies community into your activities at the table? The United Church of Granville (Table 24) and the Licking County Democratic Club (Table 3) will have LWVO palm cards (useful for dispelling misinformation about Issue 1) and Yes on Issue 1 signs available. The LC Dems will offer voter registration/ updating as well as information about the logistics of voting, so if you aren’t prepared to help voters or potential voters yourself, you can direct them to their table.
Dress warmly and come ready to win hearts, minds, and Yes votes on Issue 1!
