Book Club - Finding Joy in a Changing World

The read and discussion for this month is the uplifting Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by the Dali Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Douglas Abrams. From it we learn how the two Nobel Peace Prize Laureates survived decades of exile, violence and oppression. They share their process and tools on how they approach life with equanimity and calm.

The book discusses “the Nature of True Joy” and the “Obstacles of Joy” - fear, stress, anger, grief, illness, and death. The “Eight Pillars of Joy” offers their foundation for lasting happiness. The last part of the book outlines their daily “Joy Practices” that anchor their own emotional and spiritual lives. If you want to hear their laughter and childlike exuberance, the companion movie “Mission: Finding Happiness in Troubled Times” is also inspiring.
Note: the companion Book of Joy workbook is just a blank journal. Their tips are in the actual Book of Joy.
