Bethel Rally (Social Justice)
Please join us for our 17th consecutive Rally!!!
Our Mission is to Defend Democracy in beautiful downtown Bethel. While our overall theme is Defending Democracy, each week we pick a specific focus. On Saturday June 28th, 11am -12:30pm, our focus will be on Social Justice.
Social justice is the concept of creating a society where everyone has equal rights, opportunities, and treatment, regardless of their background or circumstances. It addresses systemic inequalities and aims to ensure fair and just outcomes for all individuals. Social justice is not just about treating everyone the same (equality), but also about recognizing that some individuals and groups may need additional support (equity) to overcome historical disadvantages and achieve similar outcomes.
You are in for a treat because we will have the leaders of the Justice Southbury group as our speakers this week! This group formed as a result of George Floyd's murder and has recently celebrated their 5 year anniversary of consecutive rallies every Sunday afternoon in Southbury. We'll be welcoming back Jeremy Farrell who was our amazing speaker at our Spread Love, Not Hate rally, and looking forward to learning as well from the other fantastic leaders Rick Richardson and his inspiring daughter, Julia Richardson.
Barry Seroff will be back to fill our square with live music. He will also share a few words about his "Empathy is the Cure" project.
A sign-making table will also be available, complete with all the necessary supplies, for young and old to make signs for the rally.
Note: Rally is rain or shine.
There are 2 small benches at the square and we will have a limited number of camping chairs. Please bring your own lawn or camping chair if you'd like.
Approximate Rally
We also collect a non-perishable food item for our local food pantry each week.
Although all street parking is public, we ask that you please not park in the limited parking spots in front of our local businesses, but definitely enjoy our beautiful towns restaurants afterwards!
