Banned Book Club: April
We will be discussing Breathless by Jennifer Niven.
Summary:
Breathless by Jennifer Niven is a young adult novel about 18-year-old Claudine Henry, whose summer plans are upended when her parents announce their divorce, forcing her and her mom to move to a remote island off the coast of Georgia. There, she meets Jeremiah Crew, a local trail guide, and they begin a summer romance that explores themes of first love, heartbreak, family, and self-discovery, all while she grapples with her parents' separation and her own future.
Why is it banned?
Breathless by Jennifer Niven is banned in several US school districts (notably in Utah and Florida) primarily for containing "sexual content," "sensitive material," and, in some cases, being labeled as "pornographic" or "child grooming" by critics.
