Another Important Election in VA? YES! And It's Happening NOW.
I know a lot of us are taking a breath after the the election, but there is a special Virginia election in January will determine which party holds control in Richmond.
This is especially important because the Virginia General Assembly will take up three constitutional amendments when it meets in January:
• HJ1 - Abortion/reproductive healthcare rights
• HJ2 - Restoration of felon voting rights
• HJ9 - Marriage equality for same sex marriage
Passage of these amendments is wholly determined by the General Assembly which must pass them twice - once before the 2025 November election and once after – before they can be placed on the ballot in the November 2026 election.
The most important thing you can do right now is talk about the Special Election—and why it matters so much. This election is crucial, and Kannan Srinivasan and JJ Singh, the Democratic candidates, need our support. Those key amendments discussed above, and other issues that will be before the General Assembly, directly impact all of our communities - not just those in SD 32 and HD26. Special Elections often have low voter turnout, largely because people don’t even know they’re happening. We need to change that!
